Hurst Green versus Godstone Gardeners!
This show has been taking place for many years, and is a friendly (Ed - by which we mean "highly competitive") tussle between two of the local gardening clubs. Entries are made on behalf of a Club rather than as individuals, and the prize is a small Teddy who goes to spend a year in the winner's village. The competition would normally alternate year-by-year in either the White Hart Barn in Godstone, or St Agatha's Hall in Hurst Green.
We were unable to hold the competition in 2020 as the first lockdown had only just started (Ed - do you remember, three months long, and it would all be back to normal?) but here we are unable to meet in person again, one year later. The Clubs decided to hold the event online, to keep the spirit of the competition alive.
Thank you, then, to all of you who entered and made the effort to produce the show that follows. It is much appreciated, and both Committees hope you had fun entering - and also hope that next year, we can go back to holding the competition in a physical hall, with all of us present.
Thanks also to Sylvia Pocock, the judge, for her sterling work. It is not easy judging from photos, when you cannot pick up the entries and look all around them. It is also not easy when you have to peer at an iPad in full sunshine and cannot go into a warm house when trawling through over 200 entries...
Without further to-do, the winner of this year's Challenge is .... Ha! Normally we announce this at the end of the show, not at the beginning. We see no need to change, so you will just have to scroll down and keep going until the end of the show, for the result post.
All the best, and with thanks
The Committees
